The easy access to Internet makes it easier for the sale of infringing or pirated goods to expand via Internet. Recently, the National Anti-pornography and Anti-illegal Publication Offices in Suzhou, Shanghai and Qiqihar investigated many cases related to the distribution of infringing and pirated publications via Internet.
It appears that online sales of infringing and pirated publications takes a large proportion of the market, e.g. the share of books sold via Internet bookstores nearly accounted for 30% of the sales in the whole book market.
Second, the infringing or pirated goods are manufactured soon after the legal publications are put into the market. One example is that 105 internet bookstores found via www.taobao.com were selling a popular book on September 9, 2009, which was officially published on September 2, this year.
Third, the cases related to the distribution of infringing or pirated goods are complicated, and it is difficult to track those who sell the pirated books.
