According to the statistics from the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO),the number of international patent applications filed by China through PCT continued to rise in the first half of 2009 despite the global economic crisis.
As compared with the same period in 2008, there was an increase of 19 percent with regard to PCT applications filed by Chinese. In contrast, the figure was 14 percent down with regard to the PCT applications filed by US, a result of influence caused by the economic crisis. It is estimated that there will a decrease of 5% in terms of the PCT applications filed worldwide.
According to WIPO, China filed 6089 PCT applications in 2008, an increase of 11.9% as compared to 2007. The top 5 countries were US (53,521) Japan (28774), Germany (18,428), the Republic of Korea (7,908) and France (6,867).
