According to the statistics from the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), European Patent Office (EPO) and Japan Patent Office (JPO), there has been a steady growth of patent applications for inventions from China to foreign countries in the first half of 2009.
The statistics show that from January to June, Chinese filed 2,326 applications to USPTO, up 14.3%; 765 to EPO, up 2.9%; 433 to JPO, up 16.1%., a signal that Chinese continue to file foreign applications in spite of the financial crisis.
In contrast, the number of foreign applications in China is still big as compared to the foreign applications filed by Chinese. In the first half of 2009, the State Intellectual Property Office of China received 11,080 applications from the U.S., down 8.9%; 12,811 from Europe, down 9.6%; 15,956 from Japan, down 2.3%.
