As the "world largest commodity wholesale market" recognized by UN and World Bank, Yiwu city of Zhejiang Province has always been a major concern for IPR protection. In recent years, Yiwu Procuratorate has set up an integrated mechanism for IPR protection, and such measure was affirmed by US. It was even reported in the US Special 301 Report that Yiwu has officially established a coordinating institution to strengthen the IP protection and it has become much easier to apply the criminal measures for IP protection.
As one of the cooperative programs, an official delegation from Yiwu was invited to the States to help Chinese officials to understand the IP system and work in the States. During the discussions, it was pointed out by Yiwu officials that local manufacturers in Yiwu have difficulty in judging whether the certificate or trademark agreement is true or false when they were placed orders from the US. Therefore the manufacturers, with or without intention, help to make counterfeit products and export to other countries.
Recently, the Great China Office of U.S. Department of Commerce answered the question about how Chinese manufacturers can find whether a trademark license agreement is true. It is also expected that further bilateral cooperation can be carried out to combat IPR crimes through joint efforts.
