Recently, a Beijing-based online book publisher, Beijing Sursen Electronic Co Ltd ,accused competitors, Shanghai Shanda Network Development Co Ltd and Shanghai Xuanting Entertainment Information and Technology Co Ltd of using their market-leading position and forced the author not to write for Beijing Sursen.
Sursen showed to the court that one writer originally worked for Sursen and published his net novel on www.du8.com. The writer later became the contracted writer for www.qidian.com. www.qidian.com was managed by Shanda. The statistics show that more than 80% of the market relating to net novel belongs to the web under the administration of Shanda. Sursen believed that this has constituted the market monopoly and prevented the competition according to the anti-monopoly law in China.
This is said to be the first case of monopoly in Shanghai.
