The 16th Asian Games is to be held in 2010 in Gangzhou of Guangdong province. In order to create a favorable environment for the Asian Games, efforts are being made by the IP enforcement agencies to investigate and settle the cases infringing the IP rights related to the Asian Games. As a result, 16 cases were investigated since November of 2008.
In addition, Guangzhou issued Provisions for the Protection of Intellectual Property at Guangzhou Asian Games, which became effective since January 11 this year. At present, Measures for the Protection of Symbols at Guangdong Asian Games are already published for public comments. The measures are expected to be published later in 2009.
It is also learned that a mechanism for joint meeting has been established for the protection of intellectual property relating to Asian Games. 4 cities already signed an Agreement on Coordination in Enforcing Intellectual Property. The cities include Guangzhou, Dongguan, Foushan and Shanwei.
