In June, Shanghai Customs seized a batch of infringing toothbrushes bearing the sign of Shanghai Expo mascot "Haibao" in the exported goods. This was the first case discovered to have infringed the exclusive right of Shanghai Expo symbols.
The export was declared by a company from Shenzhen. It contained 30,000 toothbrushes of low quality. JAGA sign was on the packages of the toothbrushes. Additionally, the customs officials found images of “Haibao”, the mascot of Shanghai Expo. After contacting the rightholder of “Haibao”,---the Bureau of Shanghai World Expo Coordination, the Customs officers were confirmed that these were infringing goods.
It is learned that Shanghai Customs has worked out the customs protection for IPR relating to Expo 2010 Shanghai China. Training was already done for both the public and the working staff at the customs to enhance their knowledge of the symbols and related IP rights.
