In April General Administration of Customs (GAC) released the "2008 Top 10 IPR Protection Cases by Chinese Customs". The 10 cases were handled by the customs administrations in Shanghai, Shenzhen, Beijing, Qingdao, Ningbo, Chongqing, Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Huangpu, Fuzhou, Xiamen and Gongbei. In addition, China Customs was again selected as the most efficient IPR enforcement agencies by Quality Brands Protection Committee under China Association of Enterprises with Foreign Investment(CAEFI) in 2008.
It is reported that in 2008, China's customs investigated 11,135 IPR cases related to import and export and seized 650 million infringing goods, worthy nearly three billion Renminbi yuan. The number of cases and the number of infringing goods seized increased by 49.3% and 93.5% respectively.
Cooperation was also carried out with countries or regions like the United States and Japan in enforcing the IP at the customs.
