Music Copyright Society of China (MCSC) and Shanghai Tourism Industry Association recently signed a "License Agreement for the Use of Copyrighted Music" This is the result of rounds of discussions between the 2 associations and should resolve the disputes arising from the use of the background music in the hotels. It is considered as an important measure to guide the hotel members to abide by the laws and should be helpful in improving the service quality, implementing the IP regulations and rules, enhancing self-regulation.
With this agreement, member units of Shanghai Tourism Industry Association are authorized to use background music at low price, and choose to use the specialized music services provided by MCSC to meet their own needs, at no charge.
Up to now, over 8,000 various business operators have signed to pay for the use of musical works and music copyright protection has made positive progress in China.
