On March 10, the China-Cambodia Seminar on Patent Examination Cooperation was held via video conference. Lu Pengqi, Deputy Commissioner of the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) and Phork Sovanrith, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation (MISTI), Cambodia and High Representative of H.E. Cham Prasidh, Senior Minister and MISTI Minister attended the seminar and delivered speeches.
Lu said that China and Cambodia have maintained close IP cooperation. CNIPA and MISTI have launched and promoted a project concerning the direct registration and entry into force of Chinese invention patents in Cambodia and a China-Cambodia design recognition project. All these efforts showcase the mutual trust of two sides in the mutually beneficial IP cooperation and mark important achievements in Belt and Road cooperation. It is believed that this seminar will enhance the influence of the China-Cambodia patent examination cooperation project and enable more Chinese invention and design patents to be validated in Cambodia through the fast-track program, thus benefiting more innovation players.
Phork Sovanrith said that Cambodia has always devoted itself to strengthening IPR protection, and focused on strengthening and expanding cooperation with CNIPA and other IP institutions in different countries as well as international organizations. He introduced the current situation and achievements of China-Cambodia bilateral patent cooperation and expressed his hope to, through this seminar, make more people gain a deep understanding of and join the China-Cambodia patent examination cooperation project.
At the meeting, the two sides introduced and exchanged views on the authorization procedures of Chinese invention and design patents, the bilateral cooperation in projects concerning Chinese invention patent registration and validation and design patent recognition in Cambodia, and their application approval process in China and Cambodia. More than 200 representatives from the CNIPA International Cooperation Department, the relevant departments of the Patent Office, CNIPA, the Department of Industrial Property of MISTI, as well as intellectual property service agencies and business circles of China and Cambodia were present at the seminar.(Translated from CNIPA Website Chinese Version)
