In the 14th Five-Year Plan and Long-range Objectives Through 2035 issued lately, the quantum information has become the focus of the cutting-edge technologies. China is aiming to implement the research and development of intra-city, intercity and free-space quantum communication technologies, manufacture the universal quantum computing prototype and the practical quantum simulator, and make a breakthrough in the technology of quantum precision measurement.
According to an analysis of patents related to quantum technology by Valuenex, China owns almost 3, 000 patents, twice as many as the U.S.. Among all the branches of quantum technology, China is taking the lead in quantum communication and quantum cryptography, in which Toshiba of Japan owns the most patents, followed by Huawei with 100 patents, Nippon Electric Company (NEC), and Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications (BUPT).
The U.S. is also ahead of other countries in terms of the quantum computing hardware and software, and IBM leads the way with 140 patents and 80 patents respectively.
