At a recent conference, China Customs reported the 2016 intellectual property protection status and released 10 typical intellectual property protection cases in 2016.
In 2016, customs across the country took more than 19,500 measures to protect intellectual property, confiscated more than 42,058,200 suspected goods, wherein, there were about 4,144,200 imported goods concerning intellectual property infringement, an increase of 33.6% as compared with the same period of the previous year, and approximately 7,578,500 goods concerning infringement of independent intellectual property rights, an increase of 13.2%.
The 10 typical cases are: Huangpu, Tianjin, Hangzhou, Ningbo and Guangzhou customs stroke imported counterfeit automobile lubricants; Shenzhen, Ningbo, Tianjin, Huangpu, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Qingdao and Nanjing customs carried out special actions to protect the intellectual property of electric self-balancing scooters; Shanghai, Nanjing, Guangzhou, Gongbei and Beijing customs launched Sino-US joint enforcement actions; Shanghai customs handled the case of exporting sewing machine heads bearing counterfeit trademarks; Xiamen customs investigated the export of infringing shoes and clothing; Huangpu customs, together with the police, uncovered the case of leisure shoes bearing counterfeit trademark; Ningbo customs dealt with the export of padlocks that infringed independent intellectual property; Nanning customs handled a series of counterfeiting trademark cases; Zhengzhou customs investigated the export of integrated circuits under counterfeit trademarks; Lhasa customs dealt with the export of goods under counterfeit trademark.
