Top 10 countries regarding the filing of invention patent application in 2016 are: Japan (39,207), the United States (35,895), South Korea (14,158), Germany (13,746), France (4,631), Netherlands (3,453), Switzerland (3,155), Sweden (2,372), the United Kingdom (1,919) and Italy (1,610).
Top 10 countries in terms of the number of granted patents in 2016 are: Japan (34,967), the United States (25,637), Germany (12,593), South Korea (7,410), France (3,889), Switzerland (2,847), Netherlands (2,551), the United Kingdom (1,566), Sweden (1,516) and Italy (1,265).
