According to a recent report, significant progress has been made in both the quality and quantity of intellectual property development in 2016.
The statistics from SIPO show that in 2016, SIPO received a total of 3,465,000 applications for three kinds of patents, an increase of 23.8%, as compared to the same period of the previous year, wherein, 1,339,000 were invention applications, an increase of 21.5%, and 675,000 applications for inventions were concluded. SIPO also received over 40,000 PCT international applications. As a result, the number of valid invention patents exceeded one million; per 10,000 persons owned 8 invention patents; and the added value of patent intensive industries accounted for 12.4% of GDP in 2015.
