According to the spokesman of SIPO, SIPO received 1,339,000 invention applications by the end of 2016, an increase of 21.5%, as compared with the same period of the previous year.
The statistics show that, SIPO granted 404,000 invention patents in 2016, among which, 302,000 were domestic invention patents, an increase of 14.5%. In 2016, Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. ranked top among domestic enterprises regarding invention applications, and State Grid Corporation of China ranked first regarding granted invention patents.
It is also noted that in 2016, SIPO received approximately 45,000 PCT international applications, an increase of 47.3%, which indicated a strong demand for overseas patent applications. In 2016, China filed 4,843 patent applications in countries along the Belt and Road, an increase of 47.1%; in the mean time, these countries filed 3,697 patent applications in China, an increase of 18.2%.
