Since the beginning of 2016, Guangzhou IP Court has concluded 3,645 cases, an increase of 40.84%, as compared with the same period of the previous year. The rate between the settled cases and the accepted cases reached 84.02%, an increase of 24.18%.
According to the statistics, up till November, Guangzhou IP Court accepted 4,338 new cases, wherein 4,096 were civil cases, 18 were administrative cases, and 224 were property preservation cases.
It is noted that IP Courts will increase the punitive damages for repeated and malicious infringements. For example, the Net Ease Corporation sued Duoyi ltd. for infringing their copyrights and acts of unfair competition, and the court ordered the defendant to pay a compensation of 15 million Yuan, with consideration of the market value of works involved.
