At a recent press conference, SIPO released the catalogue for China’s patent intensive industries (hereinafter the catalogue) and the report on main statistics of China’s patent intensive industries (hereinafter the report).

There are 8 industries in the catalogue, including information-based industry, software and information service industry, modern transportation equipment industry, intelligent equipment manufacturing industry, biomedical industry, advanced material industry, high-efficient and environment-friendly industry, and resources recycling industry. This catalogue will better guide the allocation of social resources to those industries with patent advantages.

The latest data shows that sales revenue of new products arising out of these patent intensive industries accounted for more than 23% of the main business revenue. This ratio is 2.5 times as much as that of non-patent intensive industries in 2015. Overall, patent intensive industries continued to take a leading role in economic efficiency and level of innovation.
