Chongqing establishes joint mechanism for foreign-related intellectual property investigation and litigation

    4/1/2016|EVENTS

Recently, Chongqing Intellectual Property Office (hereinafter CQIPO) and Chongqing Foreign Trade & Economic Relations Commission (hereinafter COFTEC) signed the Cooperative Agreement on Enhancing the Protection of Foreign-related Intellectual Property (hereinafter the Agreement).

It is reported that a joint mechanism is to be established for foreign-related intellectual property investigation and litigation. Once a foreign-related intellectual property investigation occurs, the coordination office will hold meetings, conduct patent search for involved patents, hold expert discussions, in order to help the enterprise properly handle the intellectual property investigation.

Furthermore, enterprises are encouraged to carry out intellectual property search on related products and technologies of the host country before attending exhibitions. This helps to examine whether the products for exhibition have the potential risk of infringing other’s intellectual property rights.

Each year, CQIPO and CQFTEC will send professionals to attend some selected overseas exhibitions with enterprises, in order to help coordinate the request and handling of intellectual property disputes.
