According to the statistics from SIPO, in 2015, SIPO received 30,548 PCT international applications, an increase of 16.7% as compared to the same period of the previous year. Of all the international applications, 28,399 are from domestic applicants, an increase of 18.3% and 2149 are from foreign applicants, a decrease of 7%. It is noted that there are 16 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities with over 100 PCT international applications; among which, the top five rankings are Guangdong, Beijing, Jiangsu, Shanghai, and Zhejiang. The number of the international applications of the above-mentioned five provinces accounted for 85% of all the international applications in China.
