Recently, the statistics from Shanghai Intellectual Property Administration (hereinafter SIPA) show that in the first half year of 2015, a total of 42,416 patent applications were filed, an increase of 11.9% as compared to the same period of the previous year. 26,557 patents were obtained, an increase of 12.2%.
Of all patent applications and granted patents, 19,675 were applications for invention and 7,934 were granted patents for inventions. With regard to applicants, 12,160 applications for inventions were from enterprises, and 4,931 patents for inventions were granted to enterprises. Moreover, 479 PCT international applications were filed by Shanghai, an increase of 4.1%.
It is noted that by the end of June 2015, Shanghai had 62,629 valid invention patents, up 19.9% as compared to the same period of the previous year.
