A long way to go for online copyright protection

    11/12/2014|EVENTS

According to the statistics show that the National Copyright Administration (NCA) and the related authorities handled 4,241 cases regarding online infringement and piracy in the last ten years. In handling the cases, 1,926 websites bearing online piracy were closed, 1,178 illegal servers and devices were seized and a total amount of 7.83 million RMB was fined. Of all the cases 322 were transferred to judicial departments.

In spite of the achievement made by NCA, China is still facing a serious situation in online copyright protection. The emergence of new technologies, such as the application of P2P, IPTV, Wechat, micro blogs, media players and STBs not only brings barriers to protect online copyrights continuously, but also has bad effect on the development of cultural industries such as literature, music, soft wares and films and televisions.

It’s learnt that efforts should be taken to further improve the public awareness of online copyright protection in order to promote the development of Internet industry.
