Recently, the World Economic Forum released the "2014-2015 Global Competitiveness Report". According to the report, China's comprehensive strength ranked the first place among the BRIC countries and the 28th in the world.

By the end of 2013 China had been holding the first place in the world in terms of the total number of patent applications. Meanwhile there has been an increasing number of Chinese enterprises that participate in the world competition in recent years.

The statistics shows in 2013, China's export on mechanical and electronic products reached 57.3% of the total export goods, and the hi-tech products reached 29.9%.  It indicated that the uprising innovation capability of China facilitated the growth of its national comprehensive strength.

However, in spite of the growing number of patent filings, China is still less powerful concerning the grasp of core technology and many core technologies are controlled by foreign enterprises. According to the official, the initial tasks in improving innovation ability should be improving the IPR creation and utilization of enterprises, and promoting IP protection and IP management of the government.
