IP violations deterred by MPS in 2014

    9/19/2014|EVENTS

According to the statistics released by Ministry of Public Security (MPS), in 2014 China has handled over 14,000 criminal cases concerning patent and trademark infringement and arrested 18,000 suspects.

The effect of crackdown on IP violations varies in different regions. For instance, in March a workshop manufacturing fake and poor quality sanitary napkins worth 36 million RMB with 8 production lines was closed by the public security departments of Fujian, Sichuan, Zhejiang and Hunan provinces in southern China. And in May, a criminal network selling fake cosmetics online, including international brands such as "L'OREAL", "DIOR" and "CHANEL" was closed down by public security department in Jiangsu Province.
It is learnt that MPS has handled a total of 127,000 cases since 2011, and destroyed totally more than 1400 criminal dens for manufacturing, marketing and distributing counterfeit products since 2013.
In order to solve the recently increasing number of cross-border IP violations in China MPS has carried out joint enforcement actions together with the International Criminal Police Organization, World Health Organization, World Customs Organization and other foreign law enforcement offices. Patent owners and patent holding enterprises of foreign countries have various accesses to provide information related to IP violations.
