    International patent applications filed in China continued to rise

    According to the recent statistics released by the State Intellectual Property Office, China received a number of 11,243 international patent applications through the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) in the first half of 2014, an increase of 20.5% as compared with the same period of 2013.

    Of all the fillings, 91.5% applications came from domestic companies, an increase of 23% as compared with the pervious year, and 8.5% of the total applications were submitted by foreign applicants.

    The statistics show that from January to June in 2014, Guangdong province filed 5,937 PCT applications, topping other provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities), followed by Beijing, Jiangsu, Shanghai and Zhejiang. The filings from these top five accounted for 80% of the total PCT applications.    

    In terms of applicants filing PCT applications, Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd., ZTE Corporation and BOE Technology Group Co., Ltd. ranked the top 3. With regard to the foreign applications, the fillings from the United States and Japan contributed the top numbers, with 482 and 94 filings respectively, which accounted for 60% of all the foreign applications.
