China's General Administration of Customs (GAC) announced that China’s customs authorities suspended release of over 280 million suspected infringing goods and confiscated nearly 76 million in 2013.
There turned out to be four general characteristics of the infringing commodities: First, trademark infringing goods remained to be the largest amount, with a number of 74 million items, accounting for 98% of the total infringement cases. Second, most of the suspected infringing goods were investigated through export supervision. The infringing goods seized by export in 2013 were up to more than 75 million, representing 99.4% of the total. Third, the goods detained were mostly consumer goods, including tobacco, cosmetics, clothes and shoes, etc. Fourth, shipping, postal and courier deliveries were the main channels of transportation for the infringing articles.
