Recently, the Beijing Treaty on Audiovisual Performances (hereinafter referred to as Beijing Treaty) has been officially approved by Chinese government. It is a new international norm to give full protection of performers' voice and images.
According to the National Copyright Administration, as soon as the Beijing Treaty comes into force, performers' rights in their "audio-visual fixations" will be fully recognized and protected in the countries where the treaty is also approved or joined. This will largely inspire performers’ creation of audiovisual works and promote their spreading of performances. It will also encourage more people to be engaged in various types of cultural industry, especially performing industry including radio and television broadcasting and stage performances.
As of now, the Beijing Treaty has been officially approved by over 70 member states of WIPO.
