According to SIPO (the State Intellectual Property Office of P.R.C), 2013 witnessed a significant increase of patent applications for inventions and a slight decrease of patent grants.
The statistics show that the total number of patent applications received by SIPO in 2013 was 2,377,000, an increase of 15.9% compared to that of the previous year, while the patent grants reached 1,313, 000. Among all the patent applications received by SIPO, there are 825,000 patent applications for inventions, a growth of 26.3%. Of all the patent applications for inventions, 705, 000 were filed by domestic applicants, an increase of 31.8% compared to that of 2012. 81%of the domestic applications were service inventions.
The statistics also show that enterprises are playing more and more important role in intellectual property creation. 427,000 applications were filed by the enterprises, accounting for 60.6% of the total domestic applications.
