A special activity called “Sword Net Campaign” continued to play a deterrent role in 2013 against online infringement and piracy in China. The campaign was jointly launched by the National Copyright Administration of China (NCAC), the State Internet Information Office, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the Ministry of Public Security in 2005, aiming at crackdown on online infringement and piracy in the areas of written works, musical, cinematographic works, online gaming and other audio-visual products and computer soft wares.
It’s reported that in 2013, a total number of 512 online infringement and piracy cases were received, among which 190 were handled by administrative agencies. 93 were transferred to judicial organs. 137 sets of servers and associated equipment were confiscated and 201 websites were closed down.
In 2013, NCAC carried out supervision on 25 major audio-visual websites such as 360 Video, Koowo Music, KuGou Music, EMUMO, DUOMI and “一听”music websites. The local copyright administrations across China also supervised on 1,881 websites including online transaction platforms.
In addition, the NCAC established the pre-warning mechanism for key audio-visual works and those key works will be released to the public in 2014.
