According to the statistics released by the Trademark Office of the State Administration for Industry and Commerce (hereinafter as “SAIC”), as of the end of 2013, the number of Chinese trademark applications exceeded 1.88 million, an increase of 14.15% compared to that of the year 2012. By the end of 2013 the total accumulated number of trademark applications in China reached 13.24 million; 8.65 million of which were registered and 7.24 million were valid registrations. Alos in 2013, the Trademark Office examined 1.425 million marks, with an increase of 16.09% than the previous year.
Statistics also show that applications of trademark oppositions in 2013 were 34,667, declining by 4.58% compared to that in 2012.
In recent years, the SAIC has taken steps to improve TM service to meet the increasing demand for trademark applications in China, for example, enhancement of the service level of the TM registration windows, reinforcement of the functions of SAIC website in TM searching and online bulletin and application etc., and improvement of TM examination efficiency by promoting TM information construction.
