Recent statistics from the Supreme People's Procuratorate showed that, in the first half of 2013, a total of 2,176 criminal suspects in 1,428 cases was arrested and 3,805 were prosecuted in 2,253 cases by the Procuratorates at all levels across China.

Since the national intellectual property strategy implemented in China in 2008, national Procuratorates made a lot of efforts in investigation and prosecution of criminal IP cases, exercising legal supervision over judicial activities, and handling a number of IP criminal cases. From 2009 to 2012, the Procuratorates nationwide pproved arrest of 19,786 criminal suspects in 11,723 cases and prosecuted 29,481 in 17,062 cases.

It is said that China’s IP infringement increases year by year. In order to effectively combat such crimes, joint efforts have been made by the Supreme People’s Procuratorate in conjunction with other relevant departments in releasing three judicial interpretations concerning penalties over IPR violations.
