The State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO) recently built a new mechanism to publish patent statistics concerning strategic emerging industries.
According to the SIPO, the mechanism would help innovators fully understand the development trend of the emerging industries and provide reference for decision-making sectors to formulate policies for healthy development of industries.
SIPO first conducted comparative study on the strategic emerging industry classification and International Patent Classification (IPC). Based on the study, a cross reference list between strategic emerging industry classification and IPC was completed. SIPO then performed a statistic analysis on all invention patent applications and grants filed by strategic emerging industries. Advice was provided after detailed study of domestic and foreign patent applications and grants in China, including the overall patent growth and industry development.
SIPO also organized relevant organizations to study the development trend of patented technology in countries and regions where the key areas of strategic emerging industries proved to be most competitive. The study basically covered all the key areas of strategic emerging industries and focused on the patent application distribution and development trend in China, the United States, Europe and Japan, trying to reveal how to make a breakthrough in the process of global industrial structural adjustment.
