Recently, National Copyright Administration (the “NCA”) released that more than 800,000 copyrights registered in China in the year 2012. Of all the 800,000 registrations, 680,000 were registrations for works, an increase of 50% compared with the year 2011, 140,000 were software registrations, an increase of 27.33% over 2011. In the year 2012, 146 pledges relating to 773 software and works were recorded for a total loan of 2.751 billion Renminbi yuan.
According to the NCA, Beijing ranked the top in terms of copyright registration in China. With regard to types of work, the registrations were mostly photography, writing, art and film. Beijing, Guangdong, Shanghai, Zhejiang and Jiangsu ranked the top five for registration of software. The registration for cloud-based software witnessed the fastest growth, and 1,946 were registered, an increase of 118.65% over 2011.
The growth is also one of the results of the streamlining of registration process by China Copyright Protection Center and cooperation of local copyright registration agencies across China.
