SIPO starts IP protection in specialized markets

    2/1/2013|EVENTS

Recently, the State Intellectual Property Office released a Notice on Protecting Intellectual Property Rights in Specialized Markets (hereinafter refers to as the “Notice”) and will start IPR protection in specialized market in the year 2013.

According to the Notice, the specialized markets are the main location where most commodities are distributed. It is therefore important that an effective IP protection in those markets could help prevent counterfeit and shoddy products from entering into the market.
It is said that the duration will be one year. The SIPO will provide guidance in order to locate the specialized markets and find out the status of IP protection in these markets. A comprehensive working mechanism will be established to include the IP-related authorities such as administrations for industry and commerce, copyright bureaus, public security organs and the Customs to further enhance IP protection.

3 to 4 large specialized markets are said to be selected for a regular IP enforcement. In addition, a mechanism will be set up within these markets for reporting the IP complaint. Statistics of IP protection will also be released to the public. Means of settling IP disputes will be introduced to assist the relevant association.
