In 2011, the Customs in China seized over 100 million infringing imports and exports, of which 20 million infringed the domestic independent IP rights.
Due to the efforts by the Customs in strengthening IP protection, Chinese enterprises were able to regain the foreign markets through the independent IP rights. For example, Zhongshan Lanju Daily Chemical Industries Co., Ltd. increased its market share in African market by 15% in 2009 due to the effective enforcement of the Customs. Orient International Holding Shanghai Textiles Imp & Exp. Co. Ltd. increased its export nearly 3 times after 60 times of anti-counterfeiting enforcement by customs.
According to the General Administration of Customs, the Customs will further intensify the inspection of infringing goods via imports and exports and improve IP strategic cooperation between Customs and domestic enterprises. The Customs will also fully utilize Customs international cooperation mechanism to assist Chinese enterprises in safeguarding their IP rights overseas.
Under the intensification of IP protection by Customs, more and more domestic enterprises began to seek for assistance from Customs. The statistics show that more than 8,000 domestic and independent IP were already recorded in the customs, surpassing the number of IP rights recorded at the customs by foreign rightholders.
