The Sino-U.S. Intellectual Property Adjudication Conference was opened in Beijing from May 28 to 30. This event was sponsored by China Law Society and undertaken by China Intellectual Property Society. The Supreme People's Court of China and the United States Federal Circuit Court of Appeals jointly guided this conference. Tian Lipu, Commissioner of the State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO), Shen Yongde, Executive Vice President of the Supreme People's Court, Chen Jiping, Executive Vice President of China Law Society and Deputy Director of the Society and Legislation Committee of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), Gary Locke, United States Ambassador to China, Rader, Chief Judge of the U.S. Federal Circuit Court of Appeals, Kappos, Deputy Secretary of US Department of Commerce and Director of the United States Patent and Trademark Office(USPTO), and Chen Yulu, President of Renmin University, attended the opening ceremony and made welcome speeches.

A total of over one thousand people including US and Chinese judges, scholars, lawyers and enterprise representatives gathered for the three-day China-U.S. IP adjudication conference and discussed on nearly 30 topics regarding “the Development of the Intellectual Property Law System”, “the Role of the ‘Judge’ ”, “Case Management in Patent Litigation”, “the Implementation of Patent Judgments”, etc.

In the first day of the Conference, Chinese and US judges exchange their views on intellectual property law and the legal practice; in the second day both sides explored three sub-issues on Copyright, Trademark, and Medical protection; in the last day China and US participents held a moot court on the IPR trial. All of the subjects of the Conferenc made deep impression on all the paricipants, and had made a record for all the other similar Chinese IPR conferences in respect of the high rank officials, the wide scope of representation, the in-depth topics, and the original organization. The most frequently quoted words from the closing ceremony speeches by US and Chinese judges are “historical”.

Six lawyers represented NTD at the meeting: Shao Wei, Vice President and Shen Chunxiang, Vice President were invited to make expert speeches on the topic of “Intellectual Property Judicial Trial” and “Indirect Copyright Infringement on Internet” respectively. And Dong Huifang, as a representative of the Chinese patent lawyers, participated in “Mock Court” of Beijing Higher Court.
