The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) recently released a report of filings via PCT route. In 2011, there were a total of 181,900 applications, a growth of 10.7% over the previous year.
Among the top ranking countries, PCT applications from China saw the largest growth of 33.4% as compared to 2010. US remains the largest user of the PCT system with 48,596 filings, followed by Japan (38,888), Germany (18,568) and China (16,406).
In terms of the applicants, ZTE Corporation, Chinese telecommunications company, was the top applicant in terms of PCT applications with 2,826 applications in 2011, followed by Panasonic Corporation (2,463) from Japan, Huawei Technologies, Co. (1,831) from China Sharp Kabushiki Kaisha (1,755) from Japan and Robert Bosch Corporation (1,518) from Germany.
