According to the statistics issued by Beijng Higher People’s Court, courts at all levels in Beijing totally concluded 12,269 IP cases, an increase of 16.3% of the previous year, accounting for 22.3% of all IP cases nationwide, which ranked first in China in terms of the number and types of cases.
In order to improve the judicial protection of IP and create an innovation-driven environment, Beijing Higher People's Court released Guiding Opinion on the Trial of Cases relating to Copyright in the Internet, Guiding Opinion on the Trial of Cases relating to Commercial Franchise Contracts. They were used as a guidance for the trial of IP cases and become the grounds for the Supreme People’s Court to stipulate judicial interpretations.
In Beijing, the Haidian District People’s Court is one of the three trial courts designated by the Supreme Court to hear civil cases relating to patents due to its location close to Zhongguancun National Self-Innovation Demonstration Park. And Beijing Chaoyang District People’s Court was awarded as the“Model Trial Court in Chinese IP Judicial Protection”.
