According to the statistics published by the State Intellectual Property Office of China (hereinafter SIPO), a total of 1,622,000 patent applications were filed in China by the end 2011. This is an increase of 33.6% as compared to the previous year.
By the end of 2011, 526,000 applications for inventions were filed in China, an increase of 34.5% as compared to the previous year. The numbers are also significant for utility model and design applications, which are 585,000 and 522,000 respectively.
With regard to the grant of patent, a total of 961,000 patent applications were granted in China, of which 172,000 applications for inventions were granted patent, an increase of 27.4% as compared to the previous year. For utility model and design patents, there were 408,000 and 381,000 granted patents.
