Recently at the China-US Joint Commission on Commerce and Trade, China announced that a long-term leadership mechanism for IP protection is to be set in order to further enhance the IP protection through both administrative and judicial approaches. This is a promise made by Chinese government in safeguarding the IP rights in China.
Also at the joint commission, China and US signed the United States-China Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Cooperation Framework Agreement. According to the agreement, both sides will extend the cooperation in all areas of intellectual property and will fully implement the agreement. More exchange programs will be carried in areas such as patent examination and quality, trademark registration and protection and copyright protection in the internet.
According to the higher official from Ministry of Commerce in China, Sino-US cooperative programs will be implemented in 2012 to combat the activities of infringement over the internet sales. Additionally, both sides will discuss and exchange views relating to the copyright protection over the internet. It is also leant that China will further improve or revise the laws and regulations relating to these copyright issues on the internet.
Due to the efforts made by Chinese government in fighting against the IP infringement and counterfeit activities, more than 470 enterprises out of Fortune 500 now have investment in China. More than 1200 R & D center were already set up in China by the multinational companies.
