WIPO recently released its latest research report on global IP statistics. The report shows that China has made remarkable progress in the development of intellectual property. The statistics show that China ranked NO. 3 in terms of the applications for inventions; in terms of the applications for utility models, 78% are filed in China; for industrial design, 50% are filed in China. With regard to trademark, China accounts for 25% of all applications in the world.
According to the report the top 10 offices received approximately 87% of all the patent applications from the world and the top 3 receiving offices are the United States, Japan and China, accounting for 60%. With regard to utility models, China alone received 78% of all utility model applications from the world, followed by Germany and the Republic of Korea.
In 2009, 25% of all trademark applications from the world were filed at the Chinese Trademark Office. 37% of the applications from the world are filed in the trademark offices of China, India, the Republic of Korea, and Japan.
