According to the statistics from the United State Patent and Trademark Office, European Patent Office, Japaese Patent Office and Korean Intellectual Property Office, the first half of 2011 saw a steady growth of Chinese patent applications in these countries/regions. To be specific, China filed 3021 (an increase of 2.9%) patent applications to the United States, followed by 1014 patent application to European Patent Office, and 530 applications to Japan and 287 applications to Korea. It showed that US is still the top priority country for Chinese applicants.
Similarly, there was a growth of patent filings to the State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO) by the major countries. Japan ranks first with 18,840 applications for inventions(an increase of 13.6%), followed by European applicants (14,940, an increase of 4.7%), United States of America (13, 725, an increase of 7.2%), and Korea with 3595.
