According to the Supreme People’s Court, the first half of 2011 witnessed a docketing of 27649 civil cases as first instance and conclusion of 18704 cases, the growth rate being 35.72% and 45.72% respectively as compared with the previous year. The total value of first-instance cases amount to around 1.3 billion Renminbi yuan.
Of all the 27, 649 civil cases, 3,712 were related to patent, an increase of 43.76 compared with 2010; 5850 were related to trademarks, 16160 were related to copyright disputes, up by 36.64%; 306 were for technology contracts and 540 were for unfair competition. 7 cases were received for anti-monopoly. 8 cases for monopoly were concluded.
Due to efforts made towards mediation by the court, 72.53% of all cases at the first instance were settled before further proceedings in the court, up by 4.24% as compared with the previous year. 3780 cases were appealed and 3087 were concluded at the appellate level..
Also in the first half of 2011, 462 foreign-related cases were received as first instance cases, an increase of 19.93% over the previous year.
