According to the State Administration for Industry and Commerce (SAIC), applications for trademark registration nationwide in the first half of 2011 increased by 34.84% as compared with last year and are expected to hit a new record by the end of the year.
In 2010, SAIC received one million applications for trademark registration the first time in history and maintained the No. 1 in the world for the ninth consecutive year. By the end of 2010, China received an accumulation of about 8.3 million trademark applications, and this number is to be about 9 million by the end of 2011.
With regard to the trademark examination, 1.48 million applications were examined in 2010 and the pending time has been reduced to 12 months from 36 months.
