The statistics released by the State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO) show that, patent filings and grant grew fast in the first half of the year. A total of 676,000 patent applications had been received by SIPO, up 44.8％ as compared with the same period of last year.. In terms of types of patents, there were 218,000 applications for invention, 245,000 for utility model and 213,000 for design. In terms of grant, there were a total of 445,000 granted patents, up 24％ as compared with the same period of the previous year..
Of all the patent filings received in the first half of 2011, 614,000 applications were filed by domestic applicants, a rise of 49.4%; 62,000 applications came from abroad, a rise of 10.7%. In terms of domestic filings, 376,000 were service applications and 238,000 were non-service applications. With regard to applications for invention, there were 165,000 filed by domestic applications and 53,000,application are from abroad.
In the first half of 2011, SIPO granted a total of 445,000 patents, up 24%. 407,000 were granted to domestic applicants; 38,000 were granted to foreign applicants. With regard to the types of patents, 83,000 were patents for invention, 186,000 for utility models and 176,000 for designs.
