Recently, Beijing Municipal Intellectual Property Office released the White Paper on 2010 Beijing Intellectual Property Protection.
The statistics show that Beijing was among the top ranking list in terms of the filings of patent applications. A total of 50,700 patent applications were filed by applicants from Beijing, of which 11,209 were applications related to inventions. With regard to copyright, there were . 310,300 registrations.
In terms of the IP administrative enforcement, the competent authority for patent administration received a total of 33 cases and handled 7 cases of passing-off of patents. All were concluded. IP tribunals at all levels in Beijing received a total of 8,923 IP cases, over 99% of which have been concluded. The IP Tribunal under Beijing Higher People's Court was awarded “Copyright Gold Medal” by the World Intellectual Property Organization, the only award in judicial area in China.
Further, the first pre-trial mediation center of IP established in Zhongguancun successfully resolved more than 20 copyright disputes including films of “After Shock” and “Hot Summer Days”.
According to the White Paper, hot IP disputes will be included in the IP early-warning system. In Beijing. And the IP pre--warning system will also be extended to Internet industry and other emerging industries.
