China's General Administration of Customs (GAC) has recently received “The Best Anti-Counterfeiting Award for Government Agencies” from the Global Anti-Counterfeiting Group (GACG) due to its efforts, achievements, openness, and transparency in protecting intellectual property rights (IPR). GAC is said to be the only government agency for such award. The GAC was nominated for the award by the Quality Brands Protection Committee (QBPC) under the China Association of Enterprises with Foreign Investment (CAEFI).
GACG is a non-governmental global organization based in Pairs committing to IPR protection and anti-counterfeiting and has great impact on international IPR filed. The award has been presented annually since 1999 by the GACG to governmental organizations, associations and the media for exceptional work in fighting against the sale and distribution of counterfeit products and contribution in IPR protection.
The special campaigns by GAC was considered to be one of the factors GACG considered in issuing the award. The statistics show that up to the end of May this year, a total of 9,227 batches of counterfeit goods and 58 million pieces of infringing products were seized.
