According to the State Administration for Industry and Commerce (SAIC), China investigated 56,000 cases of various trademark disputes in 2010, in which 11,100 were foreign-related cases, an increase of 10 percent as compared with the same period of the previous year. In the past 5 years, a total of 265,000 cases concerning trademark disputes had been investigated.
Senior official from the SAIC expresses that further efforts will be spent to strengthen the administrative enforcement by local AICs and to fight severely against the trademark infringement and counterfeit activities. In order to crack down the infringement over the internet, the SAIC issued Provisional Administrative Measures on Internet Commodity Trading and Related Services, and it is expected that more provisions are to be issued for regulating the network trading.
Since the Special Champaign against IPR infringement last October, 3286 production sites have been destroyed for manufacturing and selling of counterfeit or fake products; By March of 2011, 45,000 cases relating to infringement and counterfeit activities had been investigated, worthy of 190 million Renminbi yuan.
It is also learned that the SAIC is revising the trademark law and the unfair competition law.
