According to the latest statistics from SIPO, a total of 1,222,286 applications were received in 2010, an increase of 25.2%. 1,109,428 were domestic applications, representing 90.8% of all the applications, an increase of 26.4% over the previous year. 112,858 were from abroad, an increase of 13.9% over the previous year.
Of all the patent applications received in 2010, there were 391,000 applications for inventions, an increase of 24.1%, of which, 293,000 were domestic applications, 98,000 were foreign applications. Of 391,000 applications of invention, 224,000 were services inventions, representing 76.5%; 155,000 were from enterprises and 48,000 by academic institutions; 18,000 by institutes of scientific research. With regard to non-service, there were 69,000.
In 2010, SIPO granted a total of 135,000 patents for inventions, of which 80,000 were for domestic inventions and 55.000 were for foreign applications.
Also in 2010, Chinese applicants filed 13,000 patents over PCT route in 2010, an increase of 61.3% over the previous year.
