Recently, the State Administration of Industry and Commerce (SAIC) reported at a meeting the preliminary progress by the special campaign against IPR infringement and the manufacture and distribution of fake and inferior goods. According to the meeting, more will be done in the next stage to fight against IP infringement. The local administrations for industry and commerce are called on to set up a long-term mechanism and settle those issues of great concern by both domestic and foreign public and issues relating to the interest of the public.
Tasks will be mainly carried out against illegal activities in the following areas:
1.Activities relating to the foreign trademarks and well-known trademarks: efforts will be done against the bad-faith registration of trademarks, illegal printing of representations of trademarks, and such unfair compettiton acts of copying the packaging and decorations of well-known goods;
2.Key and concentrated areas of goods production, collection and distribution areas of commodities, areas where there are more cases of IP infringement and production and sale of fake and inferior products. These areas include Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Anhui, Guangdong, Shandong, Fujian, Hebei, Sichuan and Henan;
3.Major cases: in addition to the first docketed 10 major cases. Another 10 cases are to be investigated.
From October to the end of December in 2010, enforcement officials destroyed 556 counterfeit production sites; concluded 5, 965 cases of counterfeit trademarks with a value of 798 million Renminbi yuan. 26 cases were transferred to judicial agencies for further proceedings.
