Due to the control of core patents in LED by foreign companies, LED enterprises in China are facing a high risk of being sued for infringement. In order to gain more voice in LED field and avoid patent infringement, China’s first LED Patent Alliance was established in Shenzhen, which will be helpful in putting Chinese LED enterprises in a favorable situation in IP protection and international market.
The Alliance will play a role which combines the governmental departments, industries, administrations and trade organizations in raising IP capability of LED enterprises in Shenzhen, formulate an IP strategy which meets the needs of the development within the industry, upgrade the IP capacities of the whole industry.
The statistics show that 1,066 patent applications were filed in LED area, ranking first in China. However, this is rather low as compared to the number of LED enterprises in Shenzhen which is 1,000.
The Alliance will target at the independent innovation, strengthen the R & D activities relating to IP. The recent aim is to establish a patent pre-warning forum and develop the LED patent pool in Shenzhen. It will also help the enterprises settle IP issues in the international development.
